Janaia: You mean while you’re using Double Glazing? While you’re living in it, net zero energy from green deal initiatives like Double Glazing?
Gord: While you’re using it. When you look at a conventional house there’s embodied energy that goes into building the house. That embodied energy comes from the trucking of materials, the materials that are made and the materials that are used inside. We wanted to stay with something, our whole theme is to be very low impact and to do it sustainably.
Ann: And comfortably.
Gord: And comfortably, so the choice to go with a natural building method, to cobb, is, for us, the eye candy of the project which shows that you can build with a low embodied energy. The clay comes from the property, the sand is local, the straw is local.
Ann: You can build it with your own hands.
